Varavoor Grama Panchayat

History & Heritage

🌾 Land of Agricultural Heritage

Varavoor was once a region under the traditional landlord–tenant system. The land reform legislation brought remarkable social and economic transformation, enabling farmers to become landowners and paving the way for the sustainable development of the village.

Traditional farming practices, indigenous seeds, and agriculture supported by livestock were once the backbone of the local economy. Today, modern farming methods using tractors and advanced agricultural machinery have become widely adopted.

Nearly half of the Panchayat's geographical area consists of paddy fields. Paddy, rubber, coconut, arecanut, black pepper, ginger, Nendran banana, and vegetables are the major agricultural crops.

The scenic landscape of Varavoor is characterized by rolling hills, lush green paddy fields, streams, ponds, forest areas, and natural beauty. The Olichi Waterfall in the Kandanchira forest region is one of the Panchayat's most attractive natural landmarks.

The collective efforts of the local community have played a significant role in the advancement of education and healthcare. Today, the Panchayat is served by quality educational institutions and well-established healthcare facilities.
